Scoring & Sound Design Contest Spotting Session
Gabriel Cohen and Bailey Gordon of the Film Scoring Network presented an interactive spotting session for those interested in submitting to the Scoring & Sound Design contest. For this event this year's contest clip from the animated short Jaguar McGuire (courtesy of Savannah College of Art and Design) was used as an example. Going through the clip shot by shot, Gabriel and Bailey gave the attendees the opportunity to consider the emotions of the main character and the intent of the film’s director. Interestingly, sometimes the emotions exhibited were ambiguous and this led to conflicting ideas as to how to approach scoring the clip. By looking at a relatively short film clip in such detail, Gabriel and Bailey compelled attendees to think critically about composing music to picture.
