Jake Hanna: book reading and interview with author Maria Judge

Jake Hanna

Come learn about the life of and listen to music inspired by this colorful Berklee alumnus, a swinging drummer who contributed to the story of jazz in Boston and beyond.
Jake Hanna joined Toshiko Akiyoshi's trio in Boston in 1957 after studying at the Berklee School of Music. He played with Maynard Ferguson (1958) and Woody Herman's Orchestra (1962-64) and did extensive work as a studio musician both in and out of jazz, including ten years as the drummer for the Merv Griffin Show big band (1964-75).
He recorded numerous albums for Concord Jazz, and his 1975 Grammy-nominated recording of Live at Concord, which he co-led with trombonist Carl Fontana, was the label’s biggest seller up to that point.
Learn more about this highly skilled, self-effacing jazz drummer, known as much for his superb musicianship as he was for his wit. Join the Berklee Bookstore for a book signing and live music with trombonist Phil Wilson. Then walk across the street at 7:00 p.m. to the Stan Getz Library for a reading, video, and interviews with the author and Berklee community members.
