More Fun than Mandatory with Weird Al

Weird Al Yankovic just nabbed his first No. 1 album with Mandatory Fun (CD 37550). Can't get enough of music's premier parodist? We also have more music by him, several videos and a compilation score (MP1630.Y26 W4 1996). If you want to learn more about him, take a look at Weird Al: The Book by Nathan Rabin with Yankovic himself (ML419.Y26 R33 2012), which includes biographical information, lots of photos, discussions of individual songs and videos and random musings.

Although parody fails under the Fair Use provisions of copyright law, Yankovic famously only parodies artists who have given their approval for him to do so. Less known is that Yankovic foregoes songwriting royalties on his lyrics, as noted by Gary Graff on To get a better understanding of how parody and Fair Use work, take a look at the chapter on that subject in Music Copyright by Ronald S. Rosen (KF3035 .R67 2008).
